Attempts to publicise her achievements
Elizabeth Raffald has been remembered sporadically since her death in 1781 with modern editions of her cookbook republished in 1970, 1997 and 2016.
In 2015 she was nominated by Suze Appleton for the female statue for Manchester, WoManchester, and although she reached the shortlist of the final six, she ultimately lost to Emmeline Pankhurst. A short booklet about Elizabeth Raffald's life is available on Amazon. It is called The Experienced English Housekeeper of Manchester by Suze Appleton and is available in paperback and ebook formats, along with the reproductions of the cookbook and the directories.

She was featured as one of the important women of Manchester in a Women in Print showcase in July 2016 at Rudy's Pizza, Ancoats. The exhibition was to celebrate the Women in Manchester's past & present, as identified in the 2016 campaign for a female statue for Manchester. A design to represent Elizabeth Raffald was submitted by Laura Jane Boast of LJBstudio.co.uk
Plans to erect a memorial plaque to her in Stockport, where she is buried, were completed on March 3rd, 2017, the 254th anniversary of her marriage to John Raffald. The plaque was formally unveiled by Suze Appleton and supported by descendants of Elizabeth Raffald. Booklets about her can be found at the tourist office in Staircase House or St Mary's heritage centre, both in Stockport's historic market place. Click below for their contact details
